SWS Daily Market Update - Oct 15, 2021


The U.S. Stocks ended the week on a high note, seeing their greatest weekly gains in the past few months. In particular, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 1.1% to 25294.76 and gained 1.6% for the week. This is the DJIA largest weekly gain since June 2021.

Retails sales grew 0.7% in September compared to an expected -0.2%. Retail sales excluding autos also rose 0.8% in September compared with an expected 0.5% and compared to 2.0% in August.

The Import price index in September grew by 0.4% (expected 0.5%) compared to -0.3% in August.

The Empire State index dropped from 34.4 to 19.8 (estimated 26.5).

Markets

The SP 500 is up by 0.75% to close at 4471.37. The index is up 1.82% over five days, up 0.87% over one month, up 3.33% over three months and up 28.35% over one year.

The trailing P/E is 30.72 compared to 37.86 one year ago and estimated future P/E 21.52. Dividend yield is currently 1.36 compared with 1.75 one year ago.

Leading stocks were JBHT up 8.74%, WFC up 6.78%, HAL up 4.88%, FLT up 4.31% and GNRC up 4.19%.

Trailing stocks were WRK down 5.58%, DPZ down 4.73%, IP down 4.53%, PKG down 3.88% and WBA down 3.64%.


The Dow Jones industrial Average is up by 1.09% to close at 35294.76. The DOW is up 1.58% over five days, up 2.05% over one month, up 1.75% over three months and up 23.38% over one year.

The trailing P/E is 23.35 compared with 27.07 year ago and an estimated future P/E of 18.88. The current dividend yield is 1.86% compared with 2.16 one year ago.
