Federal Reserve chairman, Jerome Powell, had his confirmation hearing for a second term on Tuesday. During the questioning period, Powell said that he is “prepared to raise interest rates but hoped that supply-chain snags would straighten out,” as reported by the Wall Street Journal. The U.S. stock indexes experienced gains as a result, ending a losing streak for the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
The S&P 500 went up by 0.92% to 4713.04. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.51% to 36252.02 and the Nasdaq Composite climbed 1.41% to 15153.45.

NFIB small-business index went up from 98.4 to 98.9 in December. Economists had forecasted it to be 98.7.
